School is starting and it’s time to get back to basics!

As summer winds down there are a lot of things on everyone’s lists… kids are likely going back to school, supplies need to be bought, and routines need to be adjusted. As fun as the past couple of months have been, it’s nice to slip back into a steady routine. As you’re settling into your fall routine, we want to help with some important basics to incorporate into your new schedule.

Sleep Schedules

It’s the perfect time to start re-adjusting everyone’s sleep schedules so waking up on time for work and school is less of a struggle. Start by setting ideal bed and wake-up times, and slowly work your way toward them as school gets closer.

Make time for Oral Hygiene

It’s no secret that even the best brushing and flossing routines slip in the madness of summer vacation. While forgetting this practice isn’t ideal, it happens. What’s important is making sure to re-introduce good habits (brushing 2x a day for 2 minutes and flossing once a day) in the weeks before school starts. Getting these back into your routine ensures everyone’s school year starts off with bright smiles!

National Gum Care Month

September is National Gum Care Month, and what better time to renew your commitment to flossing at least once a day! Healthy gums are the foundation for healthy teeth, and making sure they’re both healthy is easy! Flossing, brushing, and making regular visits to the dentist are all it takes to keep your gums (and teeth) in top shape!

Snack Time

Speaking of healthy teeth and gums, did you know what you eat can have a major impact on the health of your teeth? Even things that are healthy for your body, like dried fruit, can leave behind sugar that can harm teeth. Sticking with healthy snacks like fresh fruit and vegetables can help avoid some cavities. If sugary treats make their way into snack time, make sure to rinse with water after eating them.

We hope these back to basics tips help you as your get ready for the fall season. And remember, now is the perfect time to schedule appointments for your family. If you need a local dentist, be sure to check for a trusted dentist near you!
